It’s a little late in the piece, but I was take-my-breath-away, thrilled, shocked and stunned to receive a letter just before Christmas telling me that Head of the River was one of the shortlisted books on Adelaide Festival Awards for Literature 2016 in the young adult category. It’s an award that takes in two years worth of books, so I was just gobsmacked to be recognised. It was my first state shortlist, too, and something I’ve long dreamed about as a writer.
The award went to the beautiful writing of Darren Groth for Are You Seeing Me? (Random House Australia) A well-deserved win. Congratulations Darren!
Here was the full list. Every one of these books are worth tracking down and reading.
